The PGA Tour is engineering a complete overhaul set for 2028, a monumental shift designed to create a more compelling global product and provide a definitive long-term answer to the disruption caused by LIV Golf. The new structure will feature a top-flight "Championship Series" for the top 120 players and a "Challenger Series" feeder track, introducing the drama of season-long promotion and relegation. A key driver for this change is scheduling; the elite season will run from February to August, strategically concluding before the NFL season captures the fall sports media landscape.

In a move celebrated by fans, the TOUR Championship will pivot from its often-confusing staggered-start stroke play to a volatile 32-player match-play bracket. PGA Tour executive Brian Rolapp confirmed the change is a direct answer to fan demand for a more exciting and volatile format. This player-driven initiative, shaped by Player Advisory Council leaders like Adam Scott and Keith Mitchell, ensures the new format feels "authentic" to competitors while delivering high-stakes drama.

To fill the new fall "off-season," the PGA Tour is launching a new "global series" in deep partnership with the DP World Tour. This series, featuring up to nine events in markets like England, Dubai, Australia, and South Africa, will offer top players a structured international circuit.
