Faldo's Fire on LIV's Growth Claims

Golf legend Sir Nick Faldo has unleashed a sharp critique against Phil Mickelson and the LIV Golf circuit, specifically targeting their often-repeated mantra of 'growing the game.' Speaking on the Sky Sports Golf Podcast, Faldo expressed his frustration with the claim, dismissing one-off appearances like Mickelson's junior golf promotion in Hong Kong as superficial.

"I get very frustrated when they throw out lines like growing the game of golf," Faldo stated. He contrasted LIV's efforts with his own long-term commitment, the 'Faldo Series,' which has been running for 30 years and helped develop talents like Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng. "I thought, sunshine, I was here 20 years ago with a golfer called Rory McIlroy and a girl called Yani Tseng... My series is 30 years old. That is growing the game of golf, not just bowling up in Hong Kong once."

Beyond the marketing claims, Faldo also questioned the competitive integrity of LIV Golf's no-cut format. He suggested the league lacks the 'fear of failure' that is fundamental to championship golf and claimed that many players within the circuit are already seeking an exit strategy.
