Lee Westwood: LIV's Unemployed Veteran

Lee Westwood, a Ryder Cup legend and one of LIV Golf's most prominent original signings, now faces a period of significant professional uncertainty. The 53-year-old has bluntly declared himself "unemployed" following the collapse of the original LIV Golf venture into Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

In a recent podcast interview, Westwood revealed he has not signed on for the league's reboot, known as 'LIV 2.0,' stating, "I currently am unemployed. I haven't signed up to anything anywhere." He explained that the new terms were not to his satisfaction, adding, "There's nothing been presented to me that was agreeable for LIV 2.0. There's still a lot of things on that that would need fine-tuning." Westwood also offered a candid critique of the failed first iteration, attributing its demise to poor financial management: "I think the way the business was structured, there was too much waste, really."

With his LIV career in limbo, Westwood is weighing his options. A return to the DP World Tour is a possibility, but it comes with a steep penalty: a 10-tournament suspension that would keep him from competing until May 2027. A more immediate path may lie on the senior circuit. The English veteran is planning to play the Sunningdale Foursomes with his son, Sam, and is considering an entry into the PGA Senior Championship, signaling a potential new chapter in his storied career.
